The Eagle is a majestic bird that takes kingship over the skies as it flies with authority and dominates on all levels. It carries an aura of freedom, justice and liberty, it is because of this that we find it used as a symbol for high levels of authority all over the world. All over the world, the Eagle is greatly admired by many for various reasons.
According to Bird life International website, there are more than sixty species of Eagles which can be found in Eurasia and Africa. Out of these specific areas, about two can be found in the United States and Canada, nine in Central and South America and three in Australia. An Eagle has very large hooked beaks for tearing apart the flesh of its prey along with muscular legs and powerful talons. They are well known for their sharp eye sight which enables them to see their prey from a very far distance. Their very large pupils equips them in their sharp vision.
For some time now, I have felt the Lord beckoning me to take a closer study of animals particularly the eagle. There is so much that one can learn from an eagle which would impact every aspect of our lives. In our journey with God, one thing that God has always desired from us, is to have our full attention and be simply focused on Him. Sadly in our present world, it takes extra effort to maintain focus on anything as we have to deal with so many distractions at one time. If it is not distractions from social media then it comes from our daily activities. God needs us to be focused on Him, in order to receive and perceive the next move that He is about to make in our lives. Even Paul in his teachings to the church, admonition them to always stay alert especially in prayer:
With every prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit, and to this end be alert, with all perseverance and requests for all the saints.
Eph 6:18 (NET)
The eagle, as mentioned before has sharp and impeccable vision which it uses to spot its prey from afar. As human beings, we may not have the same features as the eagle but it is prayer and communing with God that enables us to activate this characteristic in us. God wants His children to see far and plan in accordance to it. If you study the Eagle, you would realize that it studies its prey before it pounces on it. Even if there is any impending danger, the bird is able to devise a plan to take on the enemy no matter its strength or ability. Be like the eagle, before you commit yourself to something, take time to study it well and take adequate notes. Pray through any impediments that God will open your eyes to see and strategise on how you intend to achieve it. Remember you don’t have to do it all alone, you have the Holy Spirit to be your helper through it all. Don’t sit on that dream and declare it impossible, rely on a God who makes all things possible in His own time. We are working towards reaching Heaven so we must use the time on earth to live out our purpose. We all have to begin to sit with God and seek Him, in order to find out what our purpose in life is. You need to equip ourselves with the vision of the Eagle that allows us to see ahead, because a man or woman without a vision, is very aimless. In life, you need to have a vision which would then tell you where you are going and it is God through your commitment and petition who will provide you with the map on how you will get there. What do you envision for yourself in the next few years? Envision where you want to be! As you pray, let it be your prayer that the Lord will equip you with 20/20 eyesight to see ahead and plan accordingly. Have the patience to study your environment and decide what changes you can make, have aim and go ahead to achieve it no matter what.
Another interesting fact about the Eagle is that it does not flock with other birds which are not of its kind. From this, one can infer that an Eagle embraces its identity and lives a life befitting of it. We must all strive to embrace our identity and live a life that will allow us to bloom beautifully. You have to know that you are a child of God, beautifully and wonderfully made with the mind of Christ. Your identity is found in Christ and your imperfections are made perfect in Him! You may know what you have been called to do on earth but if you walk with the wrong people, you will suffer a fall that could have serious repercussions. In this journey called life, it is not everyone you can carry into your next season with God. You have to leave some behind as they will not enable you to grow and mature in God. Others will stand as a stumbling block, not because they are bad people but they might just carry a presence that does not allow the Spirit of God to move freely in your life. Before God could use Abraham effectively, He had to be moved from his family and separated to be blessed:
Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go out from your country, your relatives, and your father's household to the land that I will show you. Then I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, so that you will exemplify divine blessing.
Gen 12:1-2 (NET)
You might be in your Abrahamic season right now, where certain people are being moved out your life, some may leave and never return, for others it is a temporal separation. Are you listening to God? Are you focusing on Him and taking note of the next thing to do? There is another powerful part of Abraham’s life to take note of. After he has obeyed God and moved away from home, the bible says that for some time Lot travelled with Him and later departed. Lot had to move away as there was not enough land for his herdsmen and Abraham’s herdsmen to share, due to this fact, there was a lot of confusion. There are seasons, where God wants to take you to vast place in your life full of milk and honey, its greatness cannot be handled by others so gradually they move away. The separation between Lot and Abraham was a defining moment, as God now released more blessings upon Abraham. Sometimes there are situations where God will leave you to make decisions and He watches from the sidelines to see what you will do. He will never impose His will, Abraham took the right step and it provoked God to release another blessing:
Genesis 13:14-16
New International Version (NIV)
14 The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. 15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring[a] forever. 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.
God was grooming Abraham to rely fully on Him and no one else. You have to realize that as God moves people out of your life, He is expecting you to rely on Him more and seek Him for answers. Imagine if Lot had stayed, Abraham would not have progressed as far as God wanted Him to. Don’t allow yourself to have a sugar rush for friends, remember too much of one thing can be detrimental to your development……..
I will end here for now, but I will be back tomorrow with the second part of this post. I pray that you have been blessed by this post. Take time to meditate on today’s post and as you pray, I hope that the Holy Spirit ministers to you in a way that surpasses understanding!
